Library

The University Library is named in honour of Bhai Nand Lal Ji, a renowned Persian scholar and one of the fifty-two poets who graced the court of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Since its establishment, the library has steadily expanded and modernized to meet the academic and research needs of both faculty and students. Access to library resources is provided through a barcode-enabled membership card generated via the SOUL-ILMS (Integrated Library Management System).

The SGGSWU library is fully automated and equipped with digital facilities through ILMS, with substantial subscriptions to e-resources and academic journals. ILMS enables smooth management of key library operations such as cataloguing, circulation, acquisitions, and user services, ensuring centralized and efficient organization. Users also benefit from OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) and modern reprographic services.

The library maintains perpetual subscriptions to SPSS and holds memberships with DELNET, MANUPATRA, LIVE LAW, and SCC (Supreme Court Cases). The University has also signed an MoU with INFLIBNET. With new additions each year, the library’s collection now exceeds 40,000 books. The fully air-conditioned reading hall, along with photocopy services for students and teachers, enhances the overall learning environment. A dedicated e-resource room with fifteen internet-enabled desktop computers provides access to open journals. Touch-screen systems further streamline check-ins, check-outs, and renewals.

ILMS also supports user account management by tracking borrowing history, fines, and preferences. CCTV surveillance is installed throughout the premises to ensure security. Notably, the library has received a rare and valuable collection of books on Sikh religion and history from the SGPC Head Office, Chandigarh.

To support differently-abled students, the library features a dedicated section equipped with soft copies of study materials, screen reader software such as NVDA, and a fully equipped computer. Human assistance is also available to offer personalized support, enabling these students to engage confidently with academic resources.

In addition to the central library, the University houses departmental libraries—including those in the Department of Education and the School of Law—to further support students in their respective disciplines.
